Today we want to tell you a story.
A story of a real (and huge) Energy saving in the aquarium (and theme parks) business.
This is a real story that takes place in one of the largest Aquariums in Europe, the Acquario di Genova.
Names are changed only for privacy purpose.
But we will tell you more about this at the end of this story.
By the way, we are Exco.

Andrea’s journey into the world of energy saving
But let’s start with our story.
This history tells about a little thin man, Carl, his CEO Andrew, and a journey in the energy savings world of their Aquarium.
Carl knows every single detail of his aquarium.
He is the technical maintainer of the Aquarium and knows each valve, filter, pump, tank, fan and component of the structure. If anyone has a problem calls Carl, and Carl arrives with his little case full of tools and fix the problem in few minutes. Animals can sleep quietly.
Andrew’s doubts
One day the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Aquarium, let’s call him Andrew, calls Carl and asks him to improve the energy performance of the Aquarium.
Andrew tells Carl that energy is the 4° cost voice in their Balance sheets.
And the day before, Andrew has spoken with a colleague which manage some theme parks (it is well know the huge energy consumption for water pumping for the attractions) discovering that he was able to answer questions as:
”How much electric energy consumes your process pump circuit?
Are you able to reduce your energy consumption of 10%/year?
Are you able to keep system plants at maximum efficiency?”
Andrew discovered he can’t answer these questions.
Energy efficiency is also a valid marketing strategy
Moreover he is concerned about Energy European Directives, world green environmental policies, targets for 2020 of CO2 emissions reduction, asks energy savings and the CEO knows that his Aquarium can’t be out of this path for a green future.
He also knows that this is a cool marketing strategy to differ from competitors and he’s already thinking of many market claims as “Our Aquarium hosts animals using 20% less energy than others!”, “Aquarium works every day to reduce CO2 emissions!”, and so on…
Andrew and Carl understand that efficiency is a serious thing and call specialists
Carl is excited, but he knows that energy efficiency is not his task.
He works from more than 20 years in the Aquarium but he doesn’t have experience in reducing energy consumptions.
He knows every detail of his plant, and he is asking: “How can I reduce energy consumptions maintaining dolphins, seals, sharks, and all other species at the same comfort level, with the same water temperatures and recycling, with the same filtration process?”
Carl is sad.
He’s thinking “I work here for more than 20 years and this time I am afraid I’m not able to satisfy a request of my CEO”.
The best decision
So, he goes in the CEO office saying that he is desolated but he needs help.
Energy efficiency is not his task and he is worried about the results.
The CEO, orders some papers on the table, looks Carl and says: “Carl, you’re always honest and lucid in your analysis, I appreciate it every time.
So, let’s call someone that can help us in this adventure”
Do you want to know how CEO Andrew will get 10% energy savings?
Discover it in the next episode of our story ….
But…. what about your Aquarium?
Have you ever tried to track down the huge inefficiencies as Andrew did?
You know, starting your energy efficiency path, it’s really easy and simple.
Request your FREE ENERGY BENCHMARKING
It’s easy, simple and can be the beginning of the path to the same kind of benefits as Andrew!
You just have to send us your monthly energy consumption for at least one year.
We will then send you your Free Energy benchmarking where you will:
– learn how much energy your competitors use (any competitor name won’t be provided)
– know what is your positioning against them
– receive some simple tricks to start energy efficiency in your acquarium.
NB: The benchmark will be more accurate as will be detailed the data you provide to us.
